Torrance Welcomes New and Returning City Councilmembers

Torrance, Calif., April 9, 2024 – The City of Torrance welcomes new and returning City Councilmembers tonight. Incumbents Bridgett Lewis representing District 2 and Sharon Kalani representing District 4 were sworn in alongside the newest elected member Dr. Jeremy Gerson at tonight’s City Council meeting.

Dr. Jeremy Gerson, who represents District 6 succeeds termed-out Councilmember Mike Griffiths. Dr. Gerson comes with more than 20 years of experience in the education field holding various positions from Board President to member to teacher within the Torrance Unified School District.

Councilmember Bridgett Lewis returns for a full four-year term as she was appointed in August 2022 following the election of Mayor George K. Chen. She is the manager of Homeland Security at the Port of Long Beach, the largest seaport complex in the United States. Councilmember Sharon Kalani returns for her second term as she was first elected to office in March 2020. She is a trusted advisor at Green Hills Memorial Park. Both members have been pivotal in steering initiatives that have contributed to the wellbeing and growth of Torrance.

Torrance Mayor George K. Chen expressed enthusiasm for the new insights represented by the incoming Council and said, “Their experience and understanding of the City’s challenges and opportunities are invaluable assets for the Council’s future endeavors. I look forward to working alongside our new and returning members to build a brighter, more prosperous future for all our residents.”
