Post Date:09/20/2023 1:51 PM

TORRANCE, Calif., September 20, 2023 - The City of Torrance will host the 26th Annual Coastal Cleanup Day at Torrance Beach. Considered one of the largest volunteer efforts to clean and conserve beaches across the world, the community is invited to join this year’s event on Saturday, September 23 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. beginning at Miramar Park above Torrance Beach. Coastal Cleanup Day is coordinated by the Ocean Conservancy, California Coastal Commission, L.A. Department of Beaches and Harbors and Heal the Bay.

Home to more than 40 acres of beach, the City of Torrance recognizes that keeping it clean is imperative to keeping our community happy and healthy. Volunteers will have the opportunity to work side by side with City staff, elected officials, Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce, and other community members. Local businesses, schools, key club groups, and sports teams are encouraged to participate.

The City’s Community Development Department will have giveaways, refreshments, and opportunity drawings for prizes, the Public Works Department will feature a fun recycling game, and the Social Services Committee will be onsite to collect messages for an upcoming veteran’s appreciation event. The Office of Emergency Services along with the Cable and Community Relations team will be on hand to provide emergency preparedness information and offer the community a chance to sign up for TorranceAlerts, the City’s emergency notification system. Free parking available in the Los Angeles County Parking Lot for all volunteers. To register or to learn more about this event, visit www.TorranceCA.Gov/CoastalCleanup, or call (310) 618-5990.
