Post Date:08/30/2023 9:37 PM

Torrance Mayor George K. Chen along with Torrance Police Chief Jay Hart released this joint statement today.

“Public Safety is our top priority. The Torrance Police Department strives to provide all community members with a safe and positive experience when visiting Torrance. We stand united with our community partners and oppose any individuals who come to Torrance to disrupt or violate the law. The recent disturbance at Del Amo Fashion Center was met with an immediate and robust police response to restore the area safe and methodically implement crowd control measures. As we head into the holiday season, there will be increased police presence and patrol by the Torrance Police Department. We encourage the community to report suspicious and/or criminal behavior. If you “See Something, Say Something.”

- Mayor George K. Chen & Torrance Police Chief Jay Hart

This is in response to an incident at Del Amo Fashion Center on Sunday, August 27 where a large disruption was reported near the outdoor promenade of the shopping center. The City encourages the community to stay engaged and sign up for Torrance Alerts to receive emergency notifications and up to date information regarding Torrance. Community members are invited to join Chief Hart in a “CHAT” with the Chief, one of the many ways to stay engaged and learn more about the police departments efforts to ensure public safety.
